Phosphate Mine, Idaho

EHS Support provides support of post-mining monitoring and remediation at a reclaimed phosphate mine site under the jurisdiction of the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality. Two monitoring events are completed annually at 13 surface water stations and 12 groundwater wells to evaluate evolving concentrations of metals and nutrients. The site is directly adjacent to and downgradient of an operating phosphate mine; several of the monitored stations overlap with the active mine. Services provided by EHS Support include the following:

  • Semi-annual groundwater gauging and sampling for a comprehensive suite of field and laboratory analyzed geochemical parameters.
  • Assessment of data in the context of ecotoxicity criteria.
  • Database management utilizing direct transfer of field and laboratory data to the EQuIS data repository to prevent transcription errors.
  • Rigorous validation of laboratory data and review of field data to ensure that data meet project measurement quality objectives
  • Analysis and annual reporting of site hydrogeology, hydrology, and geochemistry.
  • Regulatory framework review.
  • Development of a site health and safety plan, and adherence to client health and safety requirements, including staff Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) certifications.
