Organic Contaminant Remediation

Organic contaminants comprise an extensive list of compounds that can exist as free or dissolved liquids, gases, or solids. Given the range of chemical properties, different regulatory frameworks, and unique site considerations, there are numerous options for active treatment. Regardless of the remedy, engagement with a geochemist (to some degree) during any remedial selection is important for understanding project risks and efficacy. Our biogeochemists and hydrogeologists bring decades of experience assessing and implementing remediation of organic constituents at sites throughout North America and Australasia. Some examples of recent project work our geochemists have been heavily engaged in include:

  • NSZD temperature gradient, gas gradient, dynamic closed chamber and passive trap assessments  in Texas, West Virginia, Ohio, Montana, the Caribbean, and throughout Australia.
  • Monitored natural attenuation studies of petroleum hydrocarbons and chlorinated solvents throughout North America and Australia.
  • Mercury and carbon tetrachloride pump and treat system optimization in Texas.
  • Bioremediation of the residual chlorinated solvent DNAPL and dissolved-phase plumes in New Jersey and Rhode Island by nutrient addition and microbial augmentation.
  • Bioremediation of free-phase hydrocarbon LNAPL in New Jersey by nutrient fertigation.
  • See our Contaminated Site Assessment and Remediation Service offerings for additional examples.
