EHS Support was tasked to derive site-specific human health and ecological risk-based criteria to support the evaluation of data generated from an ambient and receiving environment monitoring program for an operating aluminium mine in Australia. Site-specific human health criteria were derived for 24 PFAS in groundwater, soil, surface water and sediment. Ecological criteria were calculated from direct and indirect exposure endpoints from ecotoxicity datasets using a species sensitivity distribution approach for 24 PFAS in soil in terrestrial habitats and surface water, in sediments or in sediment pore water in four aquatic habitat types. For both, an extensive toxicity assessment was conducted, including identifying surrogates where toxicity data was lacking.
